Sutton Writers

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Upcoming Meetings

We hold a number of regular monthly meetings to assist members as they develop writing skills and share their talent and enthusiasm for writing. We host both virtual and in person meetings including informal writing workshops, fiction critiques and poetry feedbacks. The meetings are informal and friendly, although we do stick to a format and a time schedule.

We also host meetings featuring a range of external speakers, including published writers, agents, publishers and editors.

All these events are included in the annual membership fee. So come along, share your work and join the writing family.

 June meetings are as follows:

THE TABLE @ WATERSTONES

Wednesday 17th June 2026 @14:00pm

at Waterstone’s Cafe, High Street, Sutton, SM1 1DU

Provisional dates for 2026:

t.b.c

We reserve the large oval table in the window and use the time for a brief writing exercise, some on point feedback and a lovely cup of coffee. This is for any genre or style of writing, be it prose, poetry, song lyrics, biography – just come, meet up and enjoy writing for an hour or so.

PROSE IN PERSON

Monday 15th June 2026 @ 19:30

at the Quaker Meeting House, Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DR

Provisional dates for 2026:

t.b.c.

Here we share longer pieces of writing, offer constructive friendly feedback, discuss why we write, what inspired us and what we enjoy in other’s work. After some ‘in person’ sessions, a few of us like to discuss our work for longer over a drink in the Old Bank.

THE PROSE ZOOM

Thursday 21st May 2026 @ 20:00 online with Zoom

Provisional dates for 2026:

25th June

This session provides an opportunity for more indepth consideration of our work. Attendees are provided in advance with the submitted short stories or extracts from longer work, allowing us to read each article before hand and offer more reasoned discussion.

THE POETRY ZOOM

Wednesday 24th June 2026

Provisional dates for 2026:

22nd July

These meetings currently take place online. They are an opportunity for poets to share poems they have written, discuss what inspires them and how they created the piece. Attendees are asked to provide their poems in advance, which allows ample opportunity for positive, constructive feedback and encouragement. We also share a learning experience with the ‘bit-in-the-middle’, a sample of subjects where a poet will discuss an aspect of writing they are interested in or an author they admire. The meetings are inclusive, friendly, vibrant and insightful.
