Write a Christmas Ghost Story
Christmas is traditionally the time for ghost stories and this year Sutton Writers has revived our Christmas Ghost Story competition.
There is still time to submit your spooky stories.
Entries can be in poetry or prose, up to a limit of 40 lines for poetry, 1200 words for prose. It is possible to enter both a poem and prose. Our competition rules are found here.
Closing date is 4 December 2025.
So whether you are inspired by Charles Dickens or M.R. James – or thinking of something quite different – we look forward to receiving your entry.

The Ann Pattison Memorial Prize
Our own short story competition, the Ann Pattison Memorial Prize is held once a year and is open to all members, including country members (those who cannot make it to meetings). It is generally on an open theme, with entries of up to 1500 words allowed.
Each member can enter up to three stories. Our competition rules are found here.
Details for the next Ann Pattison Memorial Prize will be announced in 2026.
