The Ann Pattison Memorial Prize

Our competition, the Ann Pattison Memorial Prize is held once a year and is open to all members, including country members (those who cannot make it to meetings). It is generally on an open theme, with entries of up to 1500 words allowed.

The Ann Pattison Memorial Prize for 2026 is now open.

Sutton Writers would like to offer all members the chance to submit an entry or entries for the annual Ann Pattison Memorial Prize. Entry is limited to one poetry AND/OR one prose piece, which can be fiction or non-fiction. The word limit for prose is a maximum of 1,200 words and for poetry, a maximum of 50 lines.

Entries should be submitted as an email attachment to: suttonwriters@yahoo.com

Neither the attachment nor the file name should identify you.

All entries will be read and assessed by a judge or judges appointed by the committee.

For our 40th Anniversary Year, we are inviting entries on the theme of Time.

Christmas is traditionally the time for ghost stories and last year Sutton Writers revived our Christmas Ghost Story competition.

The 2025 competition was won by Miranda Lewis with Cat in a Box. Well done, Miranda!
