Morden Station Centenary

100 YEARS OF MORDEN

Sunday 13th September celebrated 100 years of Morden Underground Station. Sutton Writers was invited by TFL to provide poems, short stories and personal reflections on the station’s history and its association with south London and beyond. We took part in the foyer celebrations on Saturday 12th, along with musicians and a crowd of keen onlookers.

Christoph John compered for us and read some poems. Manny Gaskin, Sue Lewis, Caroline Johnstone, Claudia Ferrero Douglass and Bernard Jacobs all read their poems to great acclaim. Even Merton’s Mayor joined the audience !

The associated exhibition displayed our writings beside art works from local artists.

Later, more readings were given in Morden Library.

A great day and we look forward to Sutton Writers being the foundation stone to more local celebrations and commemorations !

Thank you for your contributions, guys, and your support.
