Sutton Writers is 40 Years strong in 2026
On Thursday 2nd July 2026, we celebrated our anniversary with the local community at the Cryer Arts Centre in Carshalton. The centrepiece was the publication of our anthology Sutton Writers: Past Present Future.
This collection is a beautifully presented demonstration of the breadth and depth of talent within Sutton’s most prominent writing group.
The forty stories and poems reflect Sutton through the ages, its cultures, its people, its future, marking individual voices, aspirations and faiths. Â
Local poet and educator Sara Nesbitt Gibbons hosted the well-attended event and our guest of honour was Sutton’s Mayor, Muhammad Sadiq. Nine of our authors read extracts, their writings speaking of emotion, humour, pathos and desire for place, time, love and friendship.
