AGM 2026

Sutton Writers held their Annual General Meeting on 21st July 2026.

A great night at the Thomas Wall Community Lounge.

Our Chair, Manny Gaskin, gave an opening address and summary of 2025-26 year’s activities. A Treasurer’s report was signed off. Members approved the ammendments to the Constitution. A new safe Guarding Policy was introduced. The standing Committee was unanimously re-elected. Copies of the recent Anthology publication Past, Present, Future were distributed to members who attended.

Once the oifficial business was concluded the annual prize giving began.

Many thanks were given to Bernard Jacobs for his five-year stint helming the Poetry Zoom meetings and in recognition of his editing, proofing and publication efforts of the past decade. He will always be, and remains, a valued member of Sutton Writers

The Ann Pattison Memorial Prize for Prose was won by Peter Hankins with his superb story Master Gnomon’s Apprentice. We hope to see this on the website soon…

The Ann Pattison Memorial Prize for Poetry was won by Philip Smith for his emotionally charged Moonlit Memories. We also hope to see this on the website soon…

The evening concluded with a literary quiz from Christoph John which featured some surprising questions and answers. Caroline Johnstone was the runaway winner. A request has been made to add the quiz to the website. Watch this space…

The evening was part-serious and part-entertainment and attendees had a lovely time among the food, drink and good company.

We expect 2026 -27 to be as brilliant, challenging and fulfilling as the last year. Roll on and read on for another forty years, Sutton Writers!
