WHITEHALL OPEN MIC – Saturday 9th May 2026
Local poet Sara Nesbitt Gibbons introduced her new poetry collection And They Are Clapping at Whitehall Museum, Cheam, on Saturday 9th May 2026. The event was a fantastic opportunity to hear Sara read her poems of personal legacy, locations of the heart and the love of the soul. Members of Sutton Writers, and other local organisations, were invited to attend and to read examples of their own work. The afternoon consisted of lyric, narrative and street poetry – there was even a villanelle! – poems of humour, colour, libraries, memories and desire. Sutton Writers attendees pictured include (L to R) Christoph John, Nicky Gravestock Lawrence, Sue Lewis, Nisha Pearson, Caroline Johnstone, Barbara Saunders and Heather Walker. Sara Nesbitt Gibbons and her book complete the photo. The event featured some brilliant verse and Sara promises to organise more Open Mic afternoons or evenings in the future.

See you at the next Open Mic…?
