Congratulations to Peter Hankins, whose new book, Scrooge and Marley expands on the hidden, unrelated past history of Charles Dickens’s novel A Christmas Carol, opening a window onto the formative world of Ebenezar Scrooge – his life and career, charitable or otherwise, as well as his romantic inclinations, honourable or otherwise. We watch and read of how Scrooge and his friend Jacob Marley lose their jobs as clerks in Tickflint’s counting house, yet go on to cut a swathe across the Victorian City of London, buying and selling businesses and entering a deadly takeover duel with the corpse-like Sir James Owtright.
This self-published novel marks a long awaited return to long form writing for Peter, who has spent the last few years writing short stories and poems, winning and being placed in numerous competitions. Well-done again, Peter, and keep on writing.
Scrooge and Marley has already garnered five and four star reviews on Amazon and Good Reads.
